2018 Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer

A few months ago, Sieben Edmunds Partner Samuel Edmunds was officially named a 2018 Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer. He was honored at the annual Attorney of the Year dinner on February 13; the event also included a networking hour for the award-winning attorneys to connect before being officially recognized at the awards ceremony.

Minnesota Lawyer is “An independent newspaper dedicated to providing court opinions, verdicts, settlements, appellate decisions, and legal news to enhance the practice of law in Minnesota.” Each year, the publication names attorneys in four categories: groups, individuals, teams, and those demonstrating “outstanding service to the profession.”

The organization selects only a handful of candidates for this honor each year. Amongst the award winners are attorneys who have won significant cases at the U.S. Supreme Court and the Minnesota Supreme Court, won releases from prison for their clients, increased access to justice, and more. Sam was nominated for his service to the profession as a leader of the Minnesota State Bar Association and American Bar Association, and as a member of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota and the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice.

Minnesota Lawyer was particularly impressed with one of Sam’s pro bono cases, where he was chosen by the Volunteer Lawyers Network to represent an extremely deserving client in an effort to obtain a criminal expungement. Sam took the case back in 2016 and represented his client through the district court, remaining by the client’s side up to the Court of Appeals of Minnesota and back to the district court over a two-year period. In the end, Sam’s tenacity paid off and he obtained a life-changing result for his client.

Sam has tried countless cases around the state of Minnesota, and he always does everything in his power to ensure his clients receive the justice and compensation they deserve. This attitude makes him an integral part of the Sieben Edmunds Miller team, and we are all thrilled to see him recognized for his professional acumen.
