We are thrilled to announce that Samuel Edmunds, a partner at Sieben Edmunds Miller, has been inducted as the 142nd President of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) for the 2024/2025 term. This prestigious role marks a significant milestone in Sam’s career and is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the legal profession and his community.  

With well over a decade of dedicated service in various leadership roles within the bar association, Sam has consistently demonstrated his passion for justice, ethical practice, and professional excellence. His induction as President is a reflection of his hard work, integrity, and the high esteem in which he is held by his peers.

A Vision for Positive Change 

As MSBA President, Sam Edmunds is dedicated to advancing key priorities that will shape the future of the legal profession in Minnesota. His agenda includes: 

  • Inclusiveness and Access to Justice: Sam is committed to fostering a legal environment where diversity is celebrated, and all individuals have equal access to legal resources. He aims to implement programs and initiatives that support underrepresented groups within the legal community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, can seek justice and receive fair treatment under the law. 
  • Artificial Intelligence in Law: Recognizing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, Sam is focused on evaluating its implications for the legal profession. He is leading efforts to ensure that AI is used ethically and effectively, balancing its benefits with necessary safeguards. A task force has been diligently working on recommendations, and the association will be implementing the task force’s recommendations through a new AI Standing Committee. This initiative aims to modernize the legal system while protecting the integrity and ethics of legal practice. 
  • Improving Attorney Experience: Understanding the challenges that attorneys face in their daily work, Sam is committed to making practical improvements that enhance their professional lives. His plans include streamlining access to court records, addressing inequities related to courthouse entry, and improving connections between attorneys and potential clients.  
  • Maintaining Judicial Elections Integrity: In light of increasing concerns about the influence of money and political influence in judicial elections, Sam is committed to preserving the integrity of Minnesota’s judicial system. He emphasizes the importance of public education to ensure that judicial elections remain fair and impartial. By raising awareness and providing accurate information, he aims to protect the judiciary from undue influence and maintain public trust in the legal system. 

Achievements and Recognition 

Sam’s contributions to the legal community are notable and demonstrate his unwavering dedication to justice and service: 

  • Board-Certified Specialist in Criminal Law: Recognized among the top 3% of Minnesota attorneys for his success as a trial lawyer earning successful results for his clients. This prestigious certification highlights Sam’s exceptional skills and dedication to achieving justice for those he represents. 
  • Attorney of the Year: Honored by Minnesota Lawyer in 2018 and 2020 for his impactful work. In 2018, Sam received this accolade for his significant pro bono expungement work, including a high-profile case that involved an extensive appeal process. In 2020, he was recognized for his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  • Advocate for Access to Justice: Served on the House of Delegates for the American Bar Association for over a decade, working to influence policy and ensure equal access to legal representation. 
  • Volunteer Lawyers Network: Maintains a significant caseload of pro bono expungement cases, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community. 
  • Community Involvement: Actively participates in various professional organizations at both state and national levels, striving to improve the legal profession and support fellow attorneys.
