Sean Paul Kehren

Sean Paul Kehren views the practice of law not merely as a career choice, but as a deeply personal calling. Growing up with an intimate look at the justice system, Sean’s unique background shapes every aspect of his advocacy. His mother dedicated much of her career to public service, working overnight shifts as a corrections officer and eventually rising to the rank of sergeant at at a state prison, while other loved ones experienced the heavy realities of incarceration. A pivotal turning point came for Sean at the age of nineteen, when a stay of adjudication allowed him to avoid a felony conviction and a permanently altered future. Having stood in the exact position many of his clients find themselves in, he emerged from the experience with a fierce determination to advocate for others, utilizing his first-hand perspective to help clients navigate the legal system with dignity.

Sean understands that legal crises do not keep regular business hours, and he prides himself on remaining highly accessible to his clients—even if that means answering a 2 AM emergency call. He is deeply committed to demystifying the litigation process, prioritizing transparent communication, setting clear expectations from day one, and reviewing the details of a case as many times as necessary to ensure his clients feel informed and empowered. While his practice is heavily rooted in robust criminal defense—ranging from pre-charge representation to post-conviction relief and appeals—Sean brings a uniquely diverse litigation background to the firm. He is highly skilled in mitigating the collateral consequences of convictions, with a special focus on gun rights restorations, pardons, and expungements.

Sean’s courtroom talent is backed by a record of stellar academic and professional excellence. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Gustavus Adolphus College before attending Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and ranked seventh in his class. During his legal studies, his exceptional advocacy and analytical skills earned him three prestigious CALI Awards for achieving the highest grade in his classes, including Advanced Advocacy Civil and Legislative Process. He also proved his talent in the courtroom early on, being named the Best Overall Advocate at the National Trial Competition (Division 12) in 2023. Prior to joining Sieben Edmunds Miller, Sean sharpened his litigation skills at a well-regarded St. Paul law firm, where he successfully managed complex civil and criminal caseloads, took and defended depositions, and advocated for clients in contested hearings and trials.

Deeply invested in Minnesota’s legal and civic community, Sean currently serves on the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) Criminal Law Section Council as its incoming Treasurer. His passion for public service extends into the political sphere; he has lent his expertise as a local campaign advisor and twice served as a national delegate at the 2012 and 2016 Democratic National Conventions. His early achievements were even officially recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record by Congressman Richard M. Nolan.

Sean lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Miranda and their pets Lulu (dog) and Clarence Darrow (cat). Outside of the office, he enjoys exercise, political advocacy, gardening, and preparing to build a family in the years to come.
